What We DoMany communities such as the city of Houston and its surrounding areas are plagued with juvenile delinquency, drug and gang violence, poverty, underfunded educational programs, alarming drop out rates, and many other factors that contribute to the attrition of growth and prosperity of our youth. As a result of these factors, many youth are displaced from receiving a standard education and developing into productive citizens. However, despite the destructiveness that these factors can have on an individual’s life, we believe that each child, given the opportunity, can overcome many of these obstacles and realize their dreams. After assessing solutions to help children emerge from these devastating conditions, we’ve created programs that begin with direct and personal communication on how they can achieve their goals. We then challenge and encourage them to take simple but necessary steps on taking every advantage of their education and developing great character. After successfully participating in these programs we reward students on their efforts. In collaboration with our Board Members, Houston ISD and other local partners, we strive to provide students, parents, and teachers with programs and resources to combat the challenges associated with various types of behavioral problems. The foundation’s success in these areas is attributed to such programs as the annual “Follow Me” Football Camp, Shopping for Good Character, Pay Now Play Later, and Athletes for Art. Our expected outcomes of these programs include decreased student dropouts, improved student attendance and conduct, increased awareness of the importance of community and extracurricular involvement, and increased commitments to higher education. Find out more about our programs that we’ve established to carry out our mission. |
